Joining DHSG was a massive change for me coming from a small town in Cornwall. I’d always loved school and learning so to be in a place where everyone wanted to learn was great.

    My school memories

Joining DHSG was a massive change for me coming from a small town in Cornwall. I’d always loved school and learning so to be in a place where everyone wanted to learn was great.

The one thing I always say that DHSG helped me with was realising my worth as a person and giving me that confidence I needed to be able to stand by my work and be proud of it. At DHSG we always put 100% into everything and that’s something I pride myself on now.

What did you do after DHSG?

Since leaving DHSG I went on to Plymouth City College to do my Alevel’s before heading to the University of Central Lancashire to study Journalism.

In 2017 I graduated with a First Class BA Honours and was awarded Student of the Year for my course.

I was lucky enough to move to Manchester and jump straight into the world of work after leaving university.

In June 2017 I started working for UNILAD, one of the biggest Facebook pages in the world with over 38 million followers.

As of April 2018 I was promoted to Social Media Manager, heading up their local page for Manchester, The Manc.

    Tips and advice

No matter what you want to do, whether you’ve figured it out or not say yes to opportunities. From sport to work placements. You might not think it right now but the more you can do and the more experience you can get will help you in the long run.

If you’re thinking of sending your child to DHSG then make sure you support them in everything, not just the homework. Sports clubs, music lessons, art, drama, novel writing. Whatever it is, it’s so important when it comes to their skills and experiences later in life.
