Table Tennis
Year 8 and 9 students participated in a table tennis event held at Lipson Cooperative Academy where they finished 2nd overall, narrowly beaten by DHSB. Congratulations to all who took part.

Netball
We are thrilled to announce that we have entered both U14 and U16 teams into the Sisters n Sport school league!

This exciting opportunity allows our players to compete against schools nationwide at a highly competitive level. Our U16 team kicked off their season with their first fixture against Truro School last Friday, delivering an outstanding performance with a 39-19 victory!

We are incredibly proud of the team’s dedication and how they overcame their first-match nerves. We can't wait to see what the rest of the season holds for them.

Alyssa 7E continues to excel at Table Tennis winning Gold in the U14 girls' team event and Silver in the U14 girls individual Senior Schools International Event. Congratulations Alyssa!

Our Year 7s competed in their first athletics event since joining DHSG! They showed amazing sportsmanship and were a joy to watch. We teamed up with DHSB and are eagerly awaiting the results!

Netball
What an end to the 23/24 Netball season! All year groups secured gold medals in their tournaments. The students have worked extremely hard this year, committing to training each week and playing games at an exceptional level. We have seen huge numbers of students participate this year socially and competitively, It is great to see so much enthusiasm for the sport. We are having a well-earned break from Netball over the summer. Bring on the Rounders.

Football
We are thrilled to announce that after weeks of intense matches, our U13 football team has clinched the top spot in the Plymouth Schools Central League! With an unbeatable record of 9 wins and 1 draw, they've secured their place in the Devon County Cup Semi Finals.

Athletics
Fantastic teamwork from our Year 7 and 8 athletes at the U13 indoor athletics competition on Friday! Competing alongside DHSB, they displayed remarkable team effort and sportsmanship. Well done to all participants.

Our u16 Netball Squad took a trip to Churston Ferres Grammar School this week. It was great to see the students on court. Well done to all those involved.

Football
Our U13 footballers showed incredible teamwork and skill at the EFL Utilita Girls Cup! On Tuesday, we battled through exciting matches and reached the final against Plymstock. Despite a nail-biting game, the Y7 and 8 students narrowly lost 1-0, securing a fantastic 2nd place out of 12 teams from schools across Plymouth!

Our cross country runners braved the elements last week, showcasing incredible effort and determination! Fantastic results across all school years – big congratulations to everyone!

Table Tennis
Our Year 7 and 8 table tennis students participated in the 2023 Devon Schools Table Tennis Association Team Championships. DHSG secured both the 1st and 2nd positions in the U13 competition. As a result of this success, they have advanced to represent Devon in the upcoming South West final, scheduled to take place at Eggbuckland Community College on Sunday 4th February. Congratulations to all the students who participated!

Well done to the Year 7 B Team that represented the school for the first time at the PSSP Netball Central Venue tournament at Heles School yesterday afternoon. They won both matches against ASAP & PHSG.

Sports Leadership
Our Year 9 students recently took part in the Plymouth Schools, Sports Partnership Leadership Event at the Plymouth Life Centre.

Netball
Wednesday night saw the opening netball fixtures of the season for the school. It started with our year 10s playing the year 11s and then games against PHSG and Lipson. The year 10s had a flying start and won all of their games. The year 11s improved over the evening and took the win against Lipson. Both teams looked great in the new VX3 dresses, showed great skill on the court and represented the school excellently off the court. Well done DHSG!

Devon U13 Finals
Congratulations to all the students from DHSG who represented our school at the Devon U13 finals! It was an absolutely fantastic performance by an incredible team. You have made us all incredibly proud! Well done, everyone!

We are thrilled to share that our amazing year 7's had an incredible time at the Super 8 Athletics event. They joined forces with DHSB in the mixed relay and what a fantastic way to wrap up the day.

Our squad showcased their talent and determination, giving their all in the track and field events, and guess what? They secured the FIRST PLACE overall! We couldn't be prouder of their outstanding performance.  Congratulations to all the students involved. Your hard work, dedication, and team spirit have truly paid off.

England Schools Touch Rugby Finals
U14 DHSG and DHSB rugby team have qualified for England Schools Touch Rugby Finals, which is an amazing achievement. This will be played at the Worcester Warriors ground on Friday the of 22nd June.

Badminton
Well done to the Year 10 Badminton team who took part in the Plymouth Schools Sports Partnerships - U16 Central Venue Badminton competition at Hele's School last week. They played against Plymouth High, Hele's & Stoke.

Cross-Country
Congratulations to the Cross-Country runners who successfully battled the windy and muddy conditions at Staddiscombe, in the Plymouth & West Devon Championships. The Year 7 team achieved 1st, 2nd, 4th, & 6th place with and a special mention going to Zoe & Elsie in Year 7 who finished 1st & 2nd in their race & Martha in Year 12 who won the Senior Girls’ race. The year 7 team also won the year 7 Team Event. Amazing achievements!

The yr7/8 Football team played against a very strong Heles team, coming out 7-5 winners. The girls showed great character & teamwork to come from behind to win the game. Congratulations to Annette for receiving player of the game from Heles School.

Girls Cricket
Kat 9E showing off some trophies her Plymouth U13 Girls cricket team has won this season. U13G and U15G Devon Indoor champions. Devon U13G Super 8’s champions. ECB U13G Regional Winners and National Runners-up. Devon U13G League winners and Devon U15 League runners-up. Plymouth (Devonport) Player of the Year and personally recorded 560 runs, 21 not outs, and 28 wickets. The highest score was 56. Well done Kat on a fantastic season.

Climbing Championships
Congratulations to Seren 9F, who won the bronze medal at the English Lead Climbing Championships in Southampton during the summer. The result helped her secure fourth place overall in the Home Nations Climbing series.

Player of the year
Talented footballer Natalie from y9 has been named MAP Kings Girls Player of the year following a successful season in the FA Devon U15 League. Congratulations!

U13 Cricket
Congratulations to our U13 Cricket Team who have won the Plymouth & West Devon competition at Plymouth Cricket Club by beating Ivybridge Community College. They will now go on to represent West Devon next month at the Devon Championship.

Futsal
Amelia 7F and Mia 7K have just won the regional finals of the Futsal competition and are now through to the National final in June. Amelia is holding the winner's plaque.

On top of this, the girls are also through to the National ESF football finals which will be held at St George’s Park, the home of English Football also in June. Mia is holding the winner trophy of the regional final. Congratulations!

Underwater Hockey
Imogen, Amy, and Bea have been trialling for Great Britain underwater hockey with regular training at weekends in Leeds. They have been selected for an international competition in Mulhouse, France. They play locally with Plymouth Underwater Hockey Club at the Life Centre. Imogen has played for 4 years, Bea for 6 and Amy for 7. All their dedication to this exhilarating team sport has paid off.

They are holding a bake sale in school to raise the funds needed to go on this trip and are grateful for the school community’s support.

Netball
Well done to the netballers in Year 7, 8, 9, 10/11 who took a clean sweep at the PSSP End of Season Netball Tournaments over the last four weeks. As a school, we are incredibly proud of their achievements, many thanks to all the parents and carers who came along to support their daughters. Across the board, the standard of netball was outstanding.

Netball
Congratulations to the Year 7 Netball team who followed in the footsteps of the Year 8's, 9's & 10/11's, by winning the Plymouth Schools Sports Partnerships End of Season Netball Tournament at Hele's.  The girls showed great resilience, determination and team spirit to come back from a defeat to Plymstock and a draw with Plymouth High in the group stage.  Following wins against Hele's and Coombe Dean, the girls made it through to the semi-finals where they beat a very strong Stoke Damerel team.  The final saw the girls come up against Plymstock again, they really did leave the best performance of the day to the last game, beating an outstanding Plymstock team 5-1.  Well done to the Year 7 Netball on a fantastic season and a massive thank you to all the parents who were there to support the school.

Great news  for Nyla Evely.  Nyla has been selected to represent England at the Frivolten Cup in Sweden on Trampoline​​​​​​. Great work Nyla we can't wait to see how you get on.

Climbing
Seren, in 8F, competed in Manchester at the first of this year's British Bouldering and Lead Climbing Competitions that form part of the Home Nations Climbing Series. She will be travelling with other members of the GB Development Squad to Edinburgh, Cardiff and Dublin amongst other cities in the UK to compete during the next 8 months. Best of luck Seren.

Year 8 End of Season Netball competition, the talented DHSG team reached the final after winning all their matches. The final match with PHSG finished 2:2. A tough match played between two evenly matched teams. Congratulations year 8 - joint end of season Netball champions!!

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
Charlotte in 7F competed in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Junior Nationals and took two gold medals over two days. What fantastic progress Charlotte is making in a sport she has only been competing in for one year!

Volleyball
Freya from year 10 has been selected to be part of the u15 South West Volleyball team. Her next competition is in Exeter, and she is looking forward to the regional competitions later this year.

Netball
Congratulations to the U16 Netball Team who won the Year 10 & 11 Plymouth Schools Sports Partnerships end of season Netball Tournament. They were undefeated throughout the whole tournament, playing an outstanding level of netball. It was lovely to see so many parents there to support their daughters in their last match for DHSG.

 

Tennis
Exciting News! Our U13s had their second tennis fixture recently at West Buckland School in Barnstaple. Each team played 6 thrilling matches of singles and doubles, culminating in a nail-biting tie-break. While West Buckland clinched the win, our students have left a lasting impression on the South West schools tennis scene. The PE department is incredibly proud of our players for their cheerful spirit and positive teamwork!

Outstanding performance by our U15 football squad on Thursday! They secured a clean sheet against Sir John Hunt, clinched a solid 2-0 victory over PHSG, and a 1-0 win against Hele's. Remaining unbeaten, these young talents showcased incredible teamwork and skill. Congratulations!

Netball
We would like to extend our warmest congratulations to the Year 7 Netball Squad who participated in the PSSP End of Season Tournament at Hele’s School yesterday. We're thrilled to announce that we were able to enter two teams, with the Dolphins coming third in their pool winning four games and narrowly losing the other two by one goal. The Diamond were unbeaten in their pool, winning all six matches and beating a strong Stoke team in the final. Every single student played brilliantly throughout the tournament, and as a school, we are immensely proud of them. A massive thank you to Mrs Cole and Miss Revell for all their time and effort this year in developing Netball here at DHSG.

Central Venue Inclusion Football Event
Our school's football team truly shone on the field, representing us with pride and team spirit. Kudos to the team for not only showcasing their skills but also supporting players from other schools who needed a helping hand. 👏

A big shout-out to the SSP for organising this fantastic event. We can't wait for the next one coming up in January 2024!

Recently, we saw another first for DHSG, we had our first boy's fixture. The boys played a 5 a-side match against Plymouth High at Harpers Park. Thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.

Basketball
For the past two weeks, we have been hosting taster sessions for Basketball at the Life Centre, which is a new after-school club introduced this year. We feel fortunate to have had Maddie and Matt from @Unitythroughbasketball join us as coaches during these sessions, and they have generously contributed 10 brand-new basketballs to the school. We express our sincere gratitude for this generous donation.  Our basketball club will continue to meet every Wednesday after school in the Gym.

Our U16 took part in a pre-season Netball Tournament on Wednesday. The students gave their all in each game and really stepped up on court. The teams are due to play another fixture in the battle for 1st and 2nd place, between DHSG A and Ivybridge CC, and 3rd and 4th place between DHSG B vs PHSG. A shout-out to VX3... we are loving the new netball dresses! Well done all.

Congratulations to the U16 Netball Team who recently won the Plymouth Schools Sports Partnership end of season tournament at Hele’s School. They were undefeated in the group stage and beat Hele’s in the semifinals. In the final they beat a very strong Plymouth High team, 7-6.

Congratulations to the U19 Netball Team that recently represented Plymouth & West Devon at the Devon Schools Netball Finals at Exeter University. They came 4th overall playing an outstanding level of netball on route to the Semi-Final.

Climbing
Anna from y9 attended the British Youth Climbing Championships recently at Rockstars in Swindon and placed 15th overall.

She qualified for the event after finishing 2nd in the South West Youth Climbing Series this year.

This tough 2-day competition is the official BMC (British Mountaineering Council) youth series, with 150 climbers from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland competing in five age categories. Only the top 3 climbers from each regional competition qualify. Congratulations to Anna.

Dance
Rhiannon from y10 achieved a 1st, 2x 3rds, a 5th, and an 8th, in a dance competition last weekend. This is particularly impressive as, it follows a long break from dancing for Rhiannon, and in a number of rounds, she competed in the under 25 age group at 14 years old! Fantastic achievement!!

Congratulations to the U19 Netball Team who won a Pre-season Tournament at the Plymouth Life Centre; beating both Plymouth High School for Girls & Devonport High School for Boys. They will now go on to represent Plymouth at the Devon Finals.

Congratulations to Freya (Year 7) on her 4th place in the Cha Cha at the SupaDance Ballroom and Latin competition. A great performance in the 12–15 year category! We wish her luck in upcoming competitions.

Mixed Martial Arts
Congratulations to Aisha who has gained a place on the English Mixed Martial Art Squad and has been offered a one-year sponsorship with Raine Clothing UK Fight-wear. As if this wasn't enough, she also won the British open Jiu-jitsu Championship. Well done, Aisha!

U15's Girls Volleyball
Freya y10 recently travelled to Leicester with the South West U15's Girls Volleyball team. They played in the National Inter-Regional Tournament against some very strong teams from across the UK. Freya played as the team setter, effectively distributing, and setting for 13 matches. The girls won the pool stage, quarter-final, and semi-final progressing through to the final, but lost to a very strong London team placing South West in the silver medal position overall. Congratulations Freya, an amazing achievement.

Devon County Athletics
Léonie from 8H competed at the Devon County Athletics Championships recently. She achieved a Gold medal/county champion for U15 Girls 75m hurdles with a PB and a silver medal in the long jump with another PB! What an amazing talent. Congratulations from everyone at DHSG.

Show Jumping
Ava from 8K and her pony Velvet Teddy qualified to go to the Show Jumping Championships at the David Broome Events Centre, Cricklands, Wales at the end of Easter. They did amazing and came away with a Bronze Medal.

Ava is also in the Prince Philip Cup and represents the southwest region as part of the east Cornwall pony club.

Congratulations to Seren (8F) who has become the South West under 16's Lead Climbing Champion. A fantastic achievement for a 12-year-old.

Walking
Esme (Y11) completed a 25km UltraChallenge walking event in 5 hours in Windsor over Easter, raising almost £800 for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a charity very close to her heart. Well done Esme.

Dance
DHSG students Amy, Daisy, Natasha, and Amelie had an awesome trip with dance studio, 'The Groovement Project Dance Company' to Los Angeles. They stayed in Hollywood for 10 days over the Easter break, visiting a couple of different dance studios in the area and taking classes with well-known, top choreographers. The pinnacle of the trip was performing at Universal Studios, Hollywood, and Disneyland, Los Angeles.

They had an amazing time and learned so much from all the choreographers. They wanted to thank everyone who donated money at the bake sale as this money helped support them to attend two dance workshops whilst they were there.

Congratulations to Molly in 10E, whose team came 3rd in the entire country at the English Schools Cross Country Championships in Kent. Molly finished 146th out of 331 runners - an amazing achievement. Well done, Molly!

Athletics
Talented student Ella from year 10 represented her local athletics club for the fifth and final Indoor Athletics competition and won the gold medal for her performance overall in 'Speed Bounce' (84 jumps in 30 seconds). She has won four out of the five events in the past 6 months. Amazing achievement well done Ella!

I understand Ella will now be focusing on her sprinting skills for the summer track events.

Congratulations to Mya who achieved first place with her team Electric from Power Athletics at the ICC Welsh Open at the Motorpoint Arena Cardiff.

Congratulations to Seren 8F, who has been selected for the Great Britain Climbing Development Squad; one of only six girls from her age category from across Great Britain. She will compete at events in Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales this year. What a talented student!
